1804 1ed Science Experimental Inquiry John Leslie HEAT Radiation Mirrors

Om föremålet

John Leslie’s ‘Experimental Inquiry’ is an important, 19th-century book – a collection of “simple, conclusive, and elegant experiments [with] explanations of phenomena.” (Edinburgh Review, 1806) Leslie was a Scottish physicist who focused the bulk of his research on heat and the physical properties of temperature change. First published in 1804, this book is filled with descriptions on use of various thermometers, using mirrors to reflect heat, the ‘Leslie Cube’ or boiling water tube, and many other inventions and discoveries related to heat production. However, the most important aspect of this book is that it “established several fundamental laws of heat radiation… it also played a major role in the early nineteenth-century argument about whether heat was a form of matter or a mode of motion. Leslie’s experiments showed that heat, unlike light, was not directly transmitted through transparent solids” (DSB) This fine first edition features impressive full-page, folding engravings of Leslie’s experimental tools, mirrors and thermometers, charts, and diagrams of his findings. $750.00 In stock Add to cart Free shipping wordwide!
