Pair of French Ormolu-Mounted Japanese Imari Porcelain Vases Covers
Stamped on the bottom MB for Millet, Paris. Established by T. Millet in 1853, the Maison Millet operated until 1902 from premises at 11, rue Jacques-Coeur, Paris, before relocating to 23, boulevard Beaumarchais. Specialising in 'meubles et bronzes d'art, genre ancien et moderne', with the accent on Louis XVI antecedents, Maison Millet was awarded medals at many of the late 19th century Universal Exhibitions and, in 1902, was authorised by the director of the Palais de Versailles to replicate Marie-Antoinette's celebrated Grand cabinet à bijoux. An auction of the firm's inventory was held in 1906 and they finally ceased trading in 1918.Läs mer
Two woodcut booklets, both with a colour woodcut on the cover, together
These authentic ukiyo-e picture books come from a series which was printed between 1845 (弘化二年 , kokka 2) and 1864 (文久二年, bunkyo 2). The booklets offered were printed in 1849 (嘉永二年 Kaiei 2). This date can be found on the inside of both booklets.Many intriguing images. Clear colours and beautifully detailed. The two covers are also very suitable to be used in a nice passe-partout (photo 2). Passe-partout is not included.The right booklet has 2 single panels and 1 dyptich where soft blue was used and brunishing can be seen on the black clothing, see photo 19 and 20. Measurements per book: 18 cm x 12 cm Book 1 (L): 9 diptychs / 2 single prints in black and white and 1 single coloured woodcutBook 2 (R): 8 diptychs / 3 single prints in black and white and 1 single coloured woodcut These books have barely been used, given that they have no signs of wear. Reasonable to good condition. Fair amount of worm holes. Most of the pages have some. View the photos for details, all pages have been photographed.
