This originally hand-colored engraving is from Coenraad Jacob Temminck's "Nouveau Recueil De Planches Coloiees d'Oiseaux". The work was published between 1820 and 1839 in Paris, Strasbourg, and Amsterdam. The engravings were completed by Nicolas Huet & Jean Gabriel Pretre. --- Temminck was a Dutch aristocrat and zoologist. He published the work presented while he was the first director of the National Natural History Museum in Leiden. It illustrated a large number of birds for the first time. Temminck was an accomplished ornithological publisher. Temminck has 47 species named after him, 20 of which are birds. --- The work is in very good condition. Some of the plates to this work have binder holes to the left edge. There are some traces of old pencil inscriptions to the lower edge. The paper is generally clean, but the plates have been trimmed to or past the plate mark at some edges. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
