'Ntchak' (Ntshakakot) Royal Dress - Raphia - Kuba - Democratic Republic of Congo
Avslutad auktion

Om föremålet

These textiles were used as wraparound skirts; also as prestige objects and as the most important part of the dowry. Ntchaks are made of raffia from the raffia palm tree. It is a difficult and hard to work with material which needs to be soaked for weeks and is then kneaded, in order to soften the threads. This long lasting process, as well as the weaving, was done by the men, whereas the embroidery and other kinds of embellishments were done by the women. The making of a Ntchak of this size could take months! \n\nThe Ntshakakot is only worn by members of the Royal family (Bushoongo-Kuba) during certain ceremonies and dances.\n\nOrigin: Bought by myself in Mushenge (2012) during a family visit. \n\nLiterature: Art Royal Kuba - Joseph Cornet .f.s.c. \n\nRegistered shipping with track and trace.
