A History, or Anecdotes of the Revolution in Russia in the Year 1762, Translated From the French of M. De Rulhiere.1798, Boston, Printed by Manning & Loring for J. Nancrede. pp.195. Period full mottled calf binding, smooth spine gilt ruled into compartments with contrasting morocco title label. Stipple engraved portrait frontis by Samuel Hill and published by Nancrede (see Stauffer). Sound binding, leather remains supple, joints rubbed, spine head chipped, overall attractive and well preserved example of this small pocket book, a scarce 18th century American imprint. Old institutional book plate to front paste down, retains blanks, scattered typical spotting, nothing offensive, text block clean, tight and sound. Scarce early American work relating to Russian history, surely among just a handful of images printed in pre-1800 America by Americans relating to Russian politics and historical rulers as well as being among relatively few stipple engravings as well. Book measures: 5 5/8" H X 3 3/8" W.[V1656]. Stauffer, American Engravers, v. 1, p. 128.
