Fine Oiseaux Chantants\ncirca 1795,\nThe fine fusee movement, wound from the right-hand side actuating the bird with streaked coloured plumage in tones of iridescent gold, green, red and blue to move ivory beak, wings and tailfeather to sequential birdsong, rising through pierced central oval grille, with circular bellows, pitch-cam and turn levers exposed below, the lid with painted enamel scene of a child reading with three attentive ladies listening, dressed in robes and headbands of silk, plain narrow border, flanking full suspended pierced and tooled grille, with curved indent to front-centre, canted corners, framed with knurled banding, the top plate of the movement visible, the outer lid hinged and opening on tiny push button on the front, with plain polished interior, stamped M below crown, the edge with acute quiver tails and the top with twin colbalt blue enamel panels over discreet fan and tri-foil engine turning, the oval lid framed with split pearls and further split pearls to outer canted-corner edge, the front and sides with repeating colbalt blue panels, the four corners with fixed seals of a flaming torch, a peace dove, a love letter and a pear, all in plain oval panels above tri-curtain tassels in dark green, red and blue enamel, the underside with a large field of blue enamel over further fan and tri-foil engine turning, hinged from the front edge with plain gold interior with further marks, start/stop push to front-left and lid lock button on rear-right, with a key - 3.1/2in.
