Om föremålet

Generally regarded in the field of sports memorabilia as the largest, most spectacular and impressive signed Babe Ruth photograph, this enormous image was produced by A.R. Smith Photographic Art Studios. It is copyrighted “A.R. Smith 1920" in the lower right hand corner, and titled “Babe Ruth" in the lower left. Ruth, captured in uniform during his first season as a Yankee, has inscribed the piece, “To My Dear Friend Billy Cook – From Babe Ruth – Sep 30th, 1921" (8/10). The size and quality of this piece strongly suggest this photograph was created for display at a public venue, perhaps at a theatre. Framed. Mint condition. LOA: PSA/DNA.\nIn 1920, in his first full season with the Yankees Babe Ruth, with 54 homers and 137 RBIs and .376 batting average, more than paid dividends on Colonel Ruppert's hefty investment. His 54 homers broke his own record of 29 set the year before with the Red Sox and caused a frenzy, kicking off the roaring twenties in New York. Even though the Yankees finished third in the American League, behind Cleveland and Chicago, attendance doubled from 619,000 to 1,289,000.\nAn unautographed example of this photograph, reproduced from this original, appeared in the Barry Halper Auction in 1999, selling for $35,650 (an auction record for an unsigned Babe Ruth photograph).
