Robbins was on the board of trustees of Meharry Medical College from 1983 to 1996. He strongly supported increasing the representation of minorities in the health professions. Meharry Medical College is one of the country's oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers. Its mission is to improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities by offering excellent education and training programs in the health sciences.
