10 Saharan Neolithic Arrowheads, Niger, Documented Study Set with Data Sheets

North Africa, Sahara, Niger, Neolithic. A group of ten knapped chert arrow or dart points, small and finely worked, each in its own clear, removable sleeve. The shapes vary widely: triangles with concave bases, tanged and barbed points, and one slender leaf-shaped blade, in honey, tan, and russet tones. Each point comes with a printed, enlarged sheet showing both faces and recording its type, material, size, weight, and flaking technique. Together they make a documented study set of tiny projectiles. These points come from a time when the Sahara was green. During the African Humid Period, monsoon rains filled lakes and watered grasslands across what is now the Tenere and the Air region of Niger. Hunters, fishers, and later cattle herders lived there, and fine bifacial arrowheads are among the most common things they left behind. As the region dried after about 3500 BCE, shifting sands exposed many old campsites, so these points are often found on the surface. The Gobero site in the Tenere preserves this lakeside Neolithic life in unusual detail. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205717
