1787 Vermont Copper. RR-12, Bressett 11-K, W-2110. Rarity-3. Bust Right. Overstruck on a Nova Constellatio Copper. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC. A great example of this RR number, boldly defined overall from a strike that is nicely centered on both sides. The denticulation is incomplete at lower left obverse, lower right reverse, but all design elements are fully on the planchet. Ample evidence of the undertype remains in the centers, also at left obverse border, but since the Vermont strike is sharp and clear, the undertype adds interest without being disfiguring or otherwise detracting. Plenty of faded autumn-orange mint color remains, the surfaces also nicely toned in warm, original olive-brown. Smooth and hard with no marks or other blemishes of note. This is a popular Bust Right die pairing for type purposes, and this superior AU RR-12 would do equally well in a specialized Vermont cabinet. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection.
