1847 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-4. Rarity-4. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC.

1847 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-4. Rarity-4. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. Strikingly toned in a blend of steel-blue and mauve-gray, the obverse contrasts with a brighter reverse dressed in mottled pearl gray and pinkish-russet iridescence. This coin is a bit lightly struck at Liberty's head, eagle's neck and right leg/talon, but it is boldly defined elsewhere. The 1847 appears to be the most widely represented Liberty Seated issue in mixed bags of circulated dollars that emerged from Treasury Department holdings during the early to mid-1960s. Regardless of date, these bags were largely comprised of coins that had been exported to Europe or Latin America at the time of issue and returned to the United States in later years in payment for American goods. With regard to the 1847, it has been a mainstay of type collections ever since the Treasury Department releases and is an excellent issue to represent the era before the Civil War when Liberty Seated dollars saw their most extensive commercial use. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 6934. NGC ID: 24YJ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
