1863 Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-315, Pollock-380. Rarity-7+. Bronze.

1863 Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-315, Pollock-380. Rarity-7+. Bronze. Plain Edge. Proof-63 BN (PCGS). Obv: Similar to the design that the Mint adopted for regular issue two-cent coinage in 1864, although the motto on the scroll reads GOD OUR TRUST instead of IN GOD WE TRUST. Rev: Also similar to the adopted type of the following year, with the word CENTS only sightly curved and the ribbon ends present at the base of the wreath. This smartly impressed, crisply defined example exhibits speckled steely-copper patina to a base of soft orange-brown color. Identifiable by a small carbon spot at the left base of the letter E in CENTS, the present example is not included among the nine specimens of Judd-315 plated in Saul Teichman's census published at the uspatterns.com website. PCGS Population: 2; 3 finer in this category (Proof-66 BN finest). PCGS# 60472. NGC ID: 29EU. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
