1875 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1391, Pollock-1534. Rarity-8.

1875 Judd-1391 Rarity Aluminum Liberty Seated Dime Finer of Just Two Known 1875 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1391, Pollock-1534. Rarity-8. Aluminum. Reeded Edge. Proof-66 Deep Cameo (PCGS). The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to coin regular issue 1875 Liberty Seated dimes. A virtually as-struck beauty with razor sharp detail to frosty motifs that appear to float atop deep pools of reflectivity in the fields. It is an exquisite Gem Deep Cameo Proof and formidable numismatic rarity. This is one of several off-metal "patterns" from the late 19th century U.S. Mint that we are offering in this sale. We have placed the word "patterns" in quotes here because these pieces were actually deliberately struck for sale to contemporary collectors as part of off-metal Proof sets. The 1875 Judd-1391 Liberty Seated dime in aluminum has an extant population of just two coins, per the uspatterns.com website, and that offered here is finer that the example that last appeared in our (Bowers and Ruddy's) sale of April 1981. An exceedingly rare bidding opportunity worthy of the undivided attention of advanced numismatists.
