19th Century Pomo Boat Shaped Basket

Late 19th century Native American Pomo boat-shaped woven basket, featuring an elongated oval form with rounded sides and a wide open mouth. The rim is decorated with a continuous row of small white shell beads, with additional suspended shells attached. The combination of intricate weaving, geometric decoration and shell embellishments reflects the basketmaking traditions of the Pomo people of Northern California. Approx. 17-1/2" x 11-1/2".
