Bertani – Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2010 – Lot of 6 Bottles Prestigious lot consisting of 6 bottles of 0.75 L Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2010, one of the most representative labels of the historic Veronese house. The 2010 vintage earned 94/100 points from Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate. It is also a Bertani five-star vintage, confirming the high quality level of the harvest. Bertani describes 2010 as an Amarone characterized by finesse and complexity, with an elegant and austere bearing. On the nose emerge black cherry and wild cherry soaked in spirits, cocoa, cardamom and tobacco, while on the palate it presents a powerful body but not heavy, still-young tannins and notable freshness. The finish is particularly long. Amarone Bertani is made from Corvina Veronese and Rondinella grapes, hand-picked and naturally dried on traditional vines. Fermentation takes place slowly and the wine is then aged for many years in large Slavonian oak casks, in keeping with the historic philosophy of the winery. Wine and winery history Bertani, founded in 1857 in Verona, is one of the historic wineries of Valpolicella and has played a significant role in the development of the traditional style of Amarone. Amarone Classico Bertani is produced according to a strongly traditional philosophy: the grapes are hand-picked and naturally dried in a fruit loft, without using artificial temperature or humidity control systems. Fermentation can last over 50 days and maturation in large Slavonian oak casks lasts at least six years, followed by at least a further year in bottle. For 2010, Bertani notes a long and cold winter, a spring initially difficult and a summer characterized by temperatures slightly below average and abundant rainfall. The strong temperature fluctuations during the final stage of maturation favored excellent sugar accumulation, while intermittent rains during the harvest did not compromise the health of the grapes.
