The Property Iconic reference of the Barolo appellation, Azienda Agricola Brezza Giacomo e Figli has been cultivating the vines since 1885. The estate produced its very first vintage in 1910. Still guided by the same passion and with know-how passed down from generation to generation, the Brezza family is now in its fourth generation. Located in the historic heart of the Barolo appellation, in the province of Cuneo, north of Piedmont, the estate lies only 500 meters from the village entrance of Barolo. On these iconic lands, Azienda Agricola Brezza crafts great Italian wines, imbued with elegance and character. The Vineyard This Piedmontese estate spans 31 hectares, including 20 hectares of vines classified as DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) or DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata). Brezza’s vines are located on some of the appellation’s most renowned terroirs, spread across the municipalities of Monforte, Novello and Alba. The estate notably owns a parcel on the famous Cannubi cru, considered one of the most prestigious of Barolo and recognized as early as 1752, making it the oldest cru in Italy. The vineyard is cultivated under certified organic farming, respecting terroir and the environment. The Wine From the eponymous vineyard, Cannubi benefits from a unique terroir with geology blending sand, clay and silt, with a southeast exposure. With a storied reputation, this cru is known for Barolo wines of very high quality, combining finesse, complexity and longevity. Vinification and Aging Harvests are carried out manually with strict grape sorting. After destemming, the berries are lightly crushed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature to start fermentation, which lasts 7 to 8 days at about 26 °C. The maceration, punctuated by regular remontages, lasts 10 to 15 days. Malolactic fermentation is then conducted in concrete tanks at about 18 °C. The wine is then aged for two years in Slovenian oak casks, followed by an additional year of bottle aging at 15 °C. Blend Nebbiolo (100%) Tasting Note from the critic: (vintage 2018) “From the heart of Barolo’s most prestigious historic vineyard, this charming and perfumed wine offers spellbinding aromas of camphor, pressed rose, new leather and wild berries. Firm, elegantly structured and flavorful, it reveals on the palate flavors of juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and soft spices, supported by taut and refined tannins. Its fresh acidity gives it a beautiful balance and will allow it to improve for many years. To drink between 2026 and 2038. Kerin O’Keefe” – Wine Enthusiast
