2019 Fuligni - Brunello di Montalcino DOCG - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

The Fuligni family lived in the early 20th century in the Tuscan Maremma. To escape malaria, the family moved to Montalcino and in 1923 bought from Gontrano Biondi Santi the estate Cottimelli, named after the 16th-century monastery that stood there. This is the classic zone where Brunello has always been made. Fuligni also bought an 18th-century palazzo in the center of Montalcino with beautiful vaulted cellars where wines are still aging today. In 1971, after the death of her father, Maria Flora Fuligni took the family estate in hand and steered it in a new direction. Whereas under her father the wine served only family and friends, from 1975 she began bottling and selling Brunello. In total there are 12 hectares of vineyard, of which 10 hectares supply Brunello di Montalcino and 2 hectares Rosso di Montalcino. The Brunello matures first for about four months in large barriques (500-750 liters) to fix the colour, and then for another 2.5 years in large Slovenian-oak casks. The elegant and complex Riserva is produced only in great vintages and gets an extra year of oak aging. This extremely elegant and refined Brunello has a garnet color. The complex nose is dominated by aromas of dark fruit, such as blackcurrants and blackberries, complemented by spicy notes. On the palate it is full and layered, with firm but velvety tannins and a lightly bitter finish. The fruity flavors and fresh acidity balance this powerful character perfectly. Cellaring potential to 2043 medium-full, powerful, dry, pleasantly fruity, fairly spicy, well-balanced oak notes, fairly mineral, delicate tannins, nicely integrated acidity Sold from private cellar A personal favorite
