The concept of negociant-éleveur is very widespread in Burgundy (its best example being Lucien Lemoine) enabling winemaker to produce from the finest terroirs without necessarily owning the vineyards. This is not the case at all in Bordeaux. If you wish to buy the very best Grand Cru classé you have to pay the price fixed by the Chateau to its distributors.
