2021 Giacomo Conterno, Arione - Barolo - 1 Bottle (0.75L)

The Giacomo Conterno estate is considered one of the most renowned estates in Italy. Its history begins in the early 20th century, when the founder (who gave it its name) created the cellar in Monforte d’Alba. The property is passed down through successive generations, each adding a piece to the edifice. Giacomo Conterno was already heir to a winemaking tradition before producing his wine, which he sold in bulk, as was done within this vineyard, today illustrious. Later, his son Giovanni Conterno gave the estate a new glow, deciding to bottle the wine made from grapes purchased from nearby viticulturists. It was around this period that, he and his brother Aldo, took different paths; Giovanni wishing to preserve a traditional spirit. Today, and since the late 1980s, Roberto Conterno has led this prestigious entity. Under his direction, the Nebbiolo and Barbera vines located on some of the region’s finest crus (Francia, Ceretta, Monfortino…) are cultivated with care, according to organic principles. In the cellar, the work remains “traditionalist,” meaning that the grapes are crushed before fermenting (between 20 and 30 days) thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. Regular remontages are performed and the aging takes place in old large casks, containers that give the wine character without imparting an overly strong woodiness. The range consists exclusively of Barolo and Barbera d’Alba. These Piedmont wines have excellent aging potential. The Nebbiolo vines come from a plot located south of the commune of Serralunga d’Alba and enable the Giacomo Conterno estate to produce one of Piedmont’s most famous wines. At the end of harvest, the best Nebbiolo bunches are selected to guarantee a raw material of very high quality. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified in a traditional and minimally interventionist way. The specialty of this cuvée lies in a crucial step implemented once vinification is finished. The red wine rests carefully for 48 months in large oak casks, within which it will develop remarkable depth. The ruby red robe reveals an intense, complex, and refined bouquet, marked by elegant violet and aromatic herb scents. The palate is deep and robust, with an audacious tannic framework, accompanied by persistent fruity aromas, leading to a long finish with great freshness. Robe of an elegant dark ruby red. Medium-expressed nose, subtly fruity (notably berries), with mineral notes and a hint of spice. Deep and structured on the palate, intense, with magnificent silky tannins that persist in the finish. Impressive evolution, finish of great intensity. Perfectly balanced, this wine has long aging potential, while already very enjoyable to drink. - Parker Points: 96/100 - Fill level (cork) - Label condition (Excellent) - Capsule condition (Excellent) - 750 ml - Bottling: (in the estate) - Ready to drink or to age further - Shipping method: La Poste (Colissimo, etc.)
