2022 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin "Hommage à Louis" - Chablis...

The Chablis Grand Cru « Hommage à Louis » 2022 embodies the excellence of Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin, a benchmark reference for the Chablis appellation in Burgundy. This prestigious cuvée comes exclusively from the Grand Cru Les Clos, one of the most renowned climats in Chablis, known for the power, complexity, and longevity of its wines. Made from vines around 40 years old, this wine is 100% Chardonnay and faithfully expresses the typicity of the Kimmeridgian soils — marls argilo-calcarous rich in marine fossils — which confer Chablis wines their distinctive minerality, often described as “gunflint” or “iodine.” The west/southwest exposure of the hillside guarantees optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving remarkable freshness. On the nose, the Chablis Grand Cru Hommage à Louis 2022 reveals aromas of ripe fruit (white peach, preserved lemon), combined with toasted, smoky, and iodine notes (oyster shell, flint). On the palate, it is distinguished by a direct attack, restrained power, and an exceptional mineral balance. The finish, long and saline, testifies to the great potential of this wine to evolve in the cellar. This grand cru pairs perfectly with noble fish (turbot, monkfish, John Dory), shellfish, oyster platters, but also with more original dishes such as sushi, fish tartare, or lightly spiced dishes. Its aging potential of 10 to 15 years makes it an ideal choice for enthusiasts wishing to build a prestige cellar or to gift an exceptional wine. Serve at 11 to 13 °C, allowing it to aerate slightly if the wine is young, to reveal all its aromatic complexity.
