Its transparency is due to a pure infiltration of liquid silica into cavities of volcanic rocks. As the silica slowly crystallized, iron- and manganese-oxide-rich solutions filtered through microcracks, branching like roots or ferns, creating the illusion of a Japanese painting trapped inside the crystal.
