6 Early XXth Century Damask linen napkins with M.B

A Carefully Matched Set of Six French Antique Linen Napkins When we acquire French antique linen from private sellers, every piece is carefully inspected for possible holes, tears, repairs such as darning, staining and general signs of wear. This is particularly important with antique napkins, which were everyday household items and were used intensively at both lunch and dinner. Traditionally, fine household linen was kept in large sets of 24, 18 or 12 napkins. After many years of use, however, complete sets are now increasingly difficult to find, and it is not unusual for only a handful of surviving examples to remain. Where possible, we carefully match these surviving napkins to create attractive sets once again. This set of six is a particularly pleasing example. The six napkins feature two very similar monogrammed designs, R.B. and M.B. giving the set a wonderfully authentic and individual character. 4 napkins measuring approximately 80cm x 75cm, embroidered with the initials R.B. 2 napkins measuring approximately 70cm x 60 cm, embroidered with the initials M.B. The designs are closely related and complement one another beautifully, while the slightly different dimensions and monograms are a charming reminder of their original individual provenance. We have included detailed photographs showing the embroidery and design of both types of napkin, together with photographs demonstrating their appearance and styling. A lovely opportunity to acquire a carefully selected group of genuine French antique linen, brought together once again as a practical and decorative set of six.
