A 1650's-1680's ornate flounce of hand made Venetian Rose Pointe, needle point lace. The word 'rose' referring to the 'raised' stump worked nature of the lace. This lace was high fashion and became highly sort after, mostly by European Royalty and their courtiers at the time. Possibly made as large flounce collar for a dress. Owning this lace signalled huge wealth. Due to import tax and restrictions, this lace was so sort after it was often smuggled into England from Europe, 127cm long x 12cm deep. Condition; The lace appears to have been hardly used or worn. There is a small stain on the back of the lace which may be removed. There are a few visible broken bracts which can be professionally repaired.
