A. B. De Périgord - Nouvel Almanach des Gourmands servant...

Fascinating enriched edition with a frontispiece and a pink folding map of the gastronomy of France - This work belongs to the great tradition of French gastronomic almanacs which, at the beginning of the 19th century, no longer content themselves with transmitting recipes, but seek to form taste, to guide dietary choices and to guide enthusiasts in the art of good eating - By its very title, the work presents itself as a true manual for the gastronome, intended for those who wish to know the means of composing a good table, of choosing suitable foods and of organizing meals with discernment - The publication appears in a context particularly favorable to the rise of French gastronomy, as the culinary practices of the Ancien Régime transform under the influence of bourgeois society and as restaurants, caterers, houses of taste and the great Parisian establishments contribute to making the table an essential space of sociability - A.
