A MALTESE WALNUT, OLIVEWOOD AND FRUITWOOD SERPENTINE COMMODE SECOND HALF 18TH CENTURY The three shaped drawers with patinated bronze figural handles 87cm high, 122cm wide, 55cm deep Provenance: Selected contents from a Private Collection, Hampshire Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some signs of historic woodworm activity, but not to the point of infestation Signs of old veneer patches A slight crack to the natural undulations of the top and a small veneer chip resulting from this A small area of banding loss to the bottom of the right-hand side No key is present, but all drawer locks are unlocked The bottom drawer has minor damage to the edge mould on the right-hand lower drawer front; it appears to be a fairly simple repair, but it was caused by a drawer-stop failure, so this would need to be looked at again. A very simple repair for a competent restorer Good colour and patina throughout, drawers sliding as intended but showing some old minor damage and repair Some old minor splits, losses, and chips.
