This gold ring with a rose-cut garnet in its center is an unusual object: it is a detailed replica of the legendary ring with which Martin Luther is said to have married his lover, the nun Katharina von Bora, in 1525. The original ring was guarded by the couple's descendants until it found its way into the museum - it is still kept in Leipzig today. This original ring, a gift from the Elector of Saxony, is an unusual goldsmith's work: The openwork ring shows a depiction of the crucifixion of Christ, with the hoop itself formed by the cross. Next to the crucified man we see the instruments of torture, the so-called "Arma Christi". These are the ladder, the lance of Longinus, a scourge, a sceptre to mock his royal dignity, the staff with the vinegar sponge, a sword, a rope and a bow depicted in relief. At the intersection of the arms of the cross, the ring is also set with a red garnet, symbolizing the shed blood of Christ. Very early on, admirers of the Reformer had rings made according to this model, which was published in copperplate engravings and descriptions, and wore them as a sign of their Protestantism. Our rings are replicas of Luther's wedding ring, which were created on our behalf. The rings are made for you after your order and have a delivery time of approx. three weeks.
