A small late 18th century walnut footstool, the top with rounded corners and a moulded outer edge, enclosing a recessed central panel framed by mitred inlay and fan-shaped corner motifs, the centre is inlaid with a crowned armorial shield, identifying the arms of the von Nagel-Doornick family of Westphalia, the quartered shield combines the red ring-brooch or clasp of the von Nagel family with the red horizontal bar of von Doornick, the combined arms refer to the union of the two families following the marriage in 1765 of Hermann Adolf von Nagel to Johanne Elisabeth von Doornick, heiress of Haus Wohnung, raised on four short turned legs, retaining an old paper label to the underside identifying the family arms, 14.5cm high, 39 x 23cm
