A stunning six-panel folding screen depicting an expansive coastal landscape animated by graceful cranes gathered among dense pine forest. Broad stretches of flowing water weave through sandy islands, while richly applied gold leaf clouds float across the composition, creating a rhythmic interplay between landscape and decorative space. Executed in natural pigments and ink on paper, the screen combines stylised forms with careful observation of nature. The green pine canopies contrast elegantly with the brilliant gold clouds and the luminous blue waterways, while delicate gold flecks scattered across the water evoke shimmering reflections. Symbols of longevity, fidelity and good fortune, the cranes and pines form one of the most auspicious themes in Japanese painting. The screen is finished with silk borders and a lacquered wooden frame. The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider. In Japanese culture, the crane (tsuru) is a symbol of longevity, fidelity and good fortune. Traditionally believed to live for a thousand years, it is associated with auspicious occasions, prosperity and enduring harmony, and frequently appears in celebratory and courtly imagery. Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings. ---The byobu is in good condition, with minor restorations to the gold leaf and a hole at the lower section of the sixth panel see picture n° 17. Minor losses and stains to the gold leaf and pigments. Signs of wear to the lacquered frame, consistent with age and use. Please refer to the pictures for further details. The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy. 661
