Abdoulaye Derme - Sculpture, Le Minotaure - 83 cm - Bronze

Elegant and austere, this sculpture revisits the mythological figure of the Minotaur with remarkable sobriety. Its extremely elongated, almost threadlike body contrasts with a head crowned by two long curved horns that immediately evoke the power of the bull. The arms, fine and oversized, naturally fall along the body, emphasizing the verticality of the work and giving it a majestic presence. The hammering visible on the chest adds a living texture that dialogues with the dark patina, revealing the bronze’s nuances over time. Resting on a flared base, the silhouette seems suspended between strength and lightness. This pared-down representation does not seek realism but symbolic expression: the Minotaur becomes a timeless figure, embodying at once power, mystery, and the duality between man and animal. Ideal for a contemporary interior or a collection of modern African art, this piece draws the eye with its elegance, balance, and strong sculptural presence. Cover photo generated by AI.
