LEGO SPACE · PISA · PARIS This monochrome diptych transforms two legendary European landmarks — the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower of Paris — into destinations for an imaginary LEGO Space expedition. Inspired by classic LEGO Space, vintage Japanese science-fiction magazines and 1970s underground publishing, the artworks imagine astronauts arriving on Earth and encountering familiar monuments as mysterious structures from an unknown civilisation. The Leaning Tower becomes an unexplained architectural anomaly discovered by a lone explorer, while the Eiffel Tower rises through a futuristic Parisian landscape like a gigantic transmission structure from another world. Distressed printing, halftones, cross-hatching, engraved textures and bold Japanese typography give both compositions the appearance of forgotten 1970s science-fiction publications, combining childhood space exploration with European architecture and retro-futurism. THE ARTIST Æ2381 (Spain, b. 1977) holds degrees in Digital Design and Multimedia Technologies (Barcelona, 2004) and East Asian Studies. His work combines Japanese visual culture, retro-futurism, experimental printmaking, vintage manga and graphic design.
