Aeolis, Kyme Hemiobol Ca. 400-300 BC (No reserve price)

Aeolis, Kyme. Ca. 400-300 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7.2 mm, 0.24 g). Obv: K-Y. Forepart of horse to right. Rev: Floral pattern. Reference: Klein 334 var. SNG Copenhagen 34. SNG von Aulock 7692. Kyme was one of the leading Greek cities of Aeolis, situated on the western coast of Asia Minor. Its harbour and fertile hinterland supported trade and agriculture, while ancient tradition linked its foundation to the Amazon Kyme. The horse and one-handled cup featured on its coinage became distinctive civic emblems, preserving the city’s identity through successive periods of Persian, Macedonian and Roman rule.
