Aesthetic Enhaced Large "Diplomystus dentatus" Fossil...

Scientific name: †Diplomystus dentatus - Fossil Fish Location: Kemmerer, Wyoming, USA Geological Formation: Green River Formation Age: Paleogene, Eocene (~48-51 million years) Size: 13,5cm - Plate: 18 x 13 x 1,5 cm REF.: #S691 DESCRIPTION: Observations: Beautiful relatively large fossil fish (Diplomystus dentatus species) from the Eocene Age Green River Formation of Wyoming (USA). The specimen is wonderfully detailed. The specimen is completely natural BUT It has also been given a color enhancement treatment to make it more striking, while also serving as a preservation treatment. Fifty million years ago ancient Fossil Lake existed in what is now southwest Wyoming. The unusual chemistry of fossil lake prevented decay and scavenging of dead organisms while millimeter-thick layers of alternating limestone matter slowly accumulated. The result is laminated limestones that contained the highest concentration of fossil fish in the world. Since the discovery in the 1870's, many perfectly preserved fossil fish have been recovered. Preserved with the fish in the laminated limestone is a complete aquatic ecosystem: plants, insects, crustaceans, amphibians (frog and primitive salamander), alligators, turtles, birds, mammals, etc All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box not included.
