Afghan - Carpet - 280 cm - 170 cm - Elephants' Feet Rug

An exceptional and highly collectible Afghan Elephant Foot rug, handwoven more than 80 years ago, dating to approximately the 1940s. This striking tribal masterpiece features a rich crimson-red field adorned with a repeating pattern of large octagonal Elephant Foot (Fil Pa) guls, one of the most iconic motifs found in traditional Afghan and Turkmen weaving. The powerful geometric design is framed by multiple finely detailed borders, creating a bold yet harmonious composition. The deep reds, burgundy tones, and contrasting black motifs have mellowed beautifully with age, giving the rug a remarkable warmth and depth that can only be achieved through decades of natural aging. Hand-knotted from high-quality wool using traditional tribal techniques, this rug represents the craftsmanship and artistic heritage of the nomadic weaving cultures of Afghanistan. The Elephant Foot motif has long been associated with strength, protection, prosperity, and tribal identity, making these rugs particularly sought after by collectors. Its generous dimensions make it ideal as a statement piece in a living room, library, study, or collection of antique Oriental carpets.
