altar figurine - Adan Ada - Ghana

Statuette, Adan culture, Ghana. Height 35 cm Beautiful Adan statuette from Ghana. The figure has a strong presence; it seems illuminated, the gaze is distant. The body, with lovely geometric volumes, is sculpted quite simply. The profile is superb and dynamic. At the rear of the skull there is a cavity, filled by a wooden plug. The white color is provided by the wood used as well as by the application of kaolin powder. A beautiful old and authentic collectible piece. Circa 1960.
