Sterling silver cup/bonbonnière with two handles, pierced – Chester 1906 – Edwardian Description Bonbonnière (cup) on a foot in sterling silver 925, with a pierced border in a geometric motif and two elegant scroll handles. Edwardian period. Full English marks: the lion passant (sterling), Chester (Assay Office), date letter F (1906), maker probably S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd. Weight: 90 g. Dimensions: 10 cm (height) × 15.5 cm (width with handles included). Good overall condition, with normal signs of use and small surface scratches due to age. No visible repairs. • City (Assay Office): The Chester city mark was depicted by three wheatsheaves and a sword. • Year 1906: According to the historical tables of the Chester Assay Office, the date letter for 1906 was usually an italic letter (within a cycle used between 1901 and 1925). • Silver quality: Almost certainly bears the Lion Passant (the passant lion), indicating British sterling silver at 92.5%. • Assay office closure: The Chester Office permanently ceased operations in 1962, making pieces from this assay office particularly sought after by collectors.
