Amba - Relief glazed ceramic plaque - Madonna - 25.5 x...

Splendid and refined rectangular ceramic plaque formed by slip casting, with a high-relief depiction of the Virgin Mary, a superb example of Turin’s excellent craftsmanship from the Art Deco period. The back clearly bears the factory mark of AMBA Torino (monogram inscribed in a diamond), a renowned Turin epigone that shared craftsmen, motifs and techniques with the famous parent house Lenci. The work stands out for the soft features of the face, captured in a pose of deep contemplation, and for the vibrant color contrast of the glossy blue glaze of the veil, enriched by a halo with a golden tint. The piece under glass testifies to the high technical and artistic level of Piedmontese production in the first half of the 20th century. A magnificent and integral piece for a collection. • Manufacturer: AMBA Torino (Epigone Lenci) • Mark: Present on the back (impressed in relief in the diamond) • Material: Hard-paste earthenware glazed in polychromy • Era: Circa 1930 - 1940 • Style: Art Deco / Italian Sacred Art of the 20th century Dimensions and Weight • Height: 34.5 cm • Width: 25.5 cm • Maximum thickness (including relief): About 4.5 cm • Base thickness: About 2 cm
