AMERICA. 9 Letters and documents: New Orleans 1784, text in Spanish + Letter from Baltimore, 1 Germinal, Year 12 (1804), Copy of a letter from Cape Saint-Domingue addressed to FOACHE, a merchant in Le Havre, regarding the arrival of his ship “Le Républicain” and the sale of its mahogany. Letter certified by the Notary of Baltimore, with a signature by Pierre SOTIN DE LA COINDIÈRE, Deputy Commissioner for Commercial Relations of the French Republic to the United States for the State of Maryland (who served as Minister of Police in 1797). Red wax seal + Business letter from Baltimore, December 8, 1817, to Messrs. Clossmann in Bordeaux. Text in English + Business letter from LE HAVRE, March 21, 1829, to PUGET, a merchant in Marseille, upon his return from America: “Sir and dear friend. Upon my return from a recent trip to the United States of America (Savannah, Georgia), I hasten to inform you of my arrival in this port with my entire cargo of cotton, following a five-month voyage. My first thought upon arriving in this port turned to your region. Would you be so kind as to let me know if you have any hope of making profitable use, in your waters, of the Charlotte and Louise (formerly the Duc de Berry)… ” + Letter from Philadelphia, July 27, 1821, to Mr. Arnoult in Nantes. Postmark: “Colonies via Bordeaux.” + Business letter from New Orleans, August 17, 1849, to Mr. Chiapella in Bordeaux: “The two ships, the Lucina and the Victoria, have arrived safely.” They are carrying his letters and bills of lading for barrels of wine + Charleston, 1874. Friendly letter: “Yellow fever was rampant in Charleston” + Bill of lading from “NEW YORK. The National Steam Navigation Company Limited.” dated Le Havre, 1865 + “LA RENAISSANCE LOUISIANAISE, Weekly Review, Official Publication of the Franco-American Populations of the South.” No. 4.
