It represents the Egyptian goddess Neith, the goddess of war and hunting, but also of wisdom, thus assimilating the Greek divinity Athena. It is a very ancient divinity dating back to pre-dynastic Egypt. It is usually represented wearing the crown of Lower Egypt, as in this sculpture, and accompanied by a bundle of arrows or a shield. In her animal form she can be represented as a fish or a bee. Provenance: Purchased at Pierre Bergé, Auction, Paris, 2006. Statement seen by Catawiki.
