Ancient Iron Meteorite from Campo del Cielo

A rare iron meteorite fallen from the sky, Argentina — This exceptional Campo del Cielo meteorite specimen, originating from Argentina, is a tangible testament to the power and beauty of cosmic phenomena. The piece presents itself with its characteristic dark fusion crust, due to the intense heating during its passage through the Earth's atmosphere. The surface is adorned with regmaglypts, cavities and impressions created by the ablation of the material during the fall, which give the specimen a sculptural and profoundly fascinating appearance. The Campo del Cielo meteorite is classified as an octahedrite iron meteorite, a type of meteorite that forms in the core of an asteroid. Its composition is predominantly metallic, with a iron-nickel matrix, making it particularly dense and heavy for its size. Its irregular surface and the dark coloration with metallic reflections make it an object of great visual and scientific interest. The Campo del Cielo fall occurred about 4,000–5,000 years ago, when a shower of meteorites crashed in what is today the Chaco Province in Argentina, creating a series of impact craters. This specimen, like all Campo del Cielo fragments, carries the story of an interstellar journey lasting billions of years, culminating in a dramatic impact with our planet. Collecting a meteorite means owning a piece of the Solar System’s history. This specimen represents not only a rare geological object but also a symbol of the vastness of the universe and our connection to it. It is an ideal piece to enrich a collection of rare minerals, fossils, or natural curiosities, or to serve as an extraordinary decorative element in any environment, evoking wonder and curiosity. Its condition is excellent, preserving all the details of its formation and its dramatic journey.
