Ancient Iron Meteorite from Campo del Cielo

A rare ferrous metal fallen from the sky, Argentina — This exceptional Campo del Cielo meteorite specimen, originating from Argentina, is tangible evidence of the power and beauty of cosmic phenomena. The piece features its characteristic dark fusion crust, a result of intense heating during its passage through Earth's atmosphere. The surface is adorned with regmaglypts, cavities and impressions created by ablation of the material during its fall, which give the sample a sculpted and profoundly fascinating appearance. Campo del Cielo meteorite is classified as an unrefined iron octahedrite, a type of meteorite that forms in the core of an asteroid. Its predominantly metallic composition, with an iron-nickel matrix, makes it particularly dense and heavy for its size. Its irregular surface and dark coloration with metallic reflections render it a visually and scientifically compelling object. The Campo del Cielo fall occurred about 4,000–5,000 years ago, when a rain of meteorites crashed in what is today the province of Chaco, Argentina, creating a series of impact craters. This specimen, like all Campo del Cielo fragments, carries with it the story of an interstellar journey lasting billions of years, culminating in a dramatic impact with our planet. Collecting a meteorite means owning a piece of the history of the solar system. This specimen represents not only a rare geological object but also a symbol of the vastness of the universe and our connection with it. It is an ideal piece to enrich a collection of rare minerals, fossils, or natural curiosities, or to serve as an extraordinary decorative element in any setting, evoking wonder and curiosity. Its condition is excellent, preserving all the details of its formation and dramatic journey.
