Ancient Roman Silver "The Crescent of Luna" — Ancient...

Across Greek, Roman and later ancient traditions, the crescent moon carried profound celestial and protective meaning. It was closely associated with Luna/Selene, the divine personification of the Moon, and with other lunar goddesses such as Artemis/Diana. The waxing and waning moon represented the eternal rhythm of renewal, transformation and rebirth. Crescent amulets were also worn as protective objects, particularly in contexts connected with divine guardianship and protection against misfortune. Its two upward-curving horns evoke the young moon appearing in the night sky — a symbol of new beginnings and returning light after darkness. The ancient surface has been preserved, displaying attractive age-related texture and wear that emphasizes the historical character of the piece. The simple geometric form makes the amulet particularly striking when worn. It is now fitted with a discreet suspension fitting and presented on a silver chain, creating an elegant combination of ancient symbolism and contemporary wearability.
