Antique Brooch With Colombian Emerald & Diamonds, Circa 1910

And just as the first green of the year heralds the new year and the restart of life after the dark winter, artists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries also wanted to make a fresh start in art and in life as a whole. This gem brings this desire for a new beginning to life once again in a precious form. For it sets a large, shining spring-green emerald between elegant, interwoven bands set with diamonds. Weighing over 18.60 carats, the emerald from the legendary sites of Colombia shines in a rich, intense green. Its origin has been confirmed by an independent expert. It is held in place by a fine gold frame. Around it, swathes of silver sparkle in bright contrast, studded all over with diamonds. It is the lively, ethereal style of the early 20th century that this fine jewel brings to mind. The influence of Art Nouveau is clearly visible. The composition can be worn as a brooch and conjures up a bright spot of color on any lapel, even on the gloomiest winter days.
