Antique Buddha hands - Bronze - 20th century

Buddha A few partly gilded bronze Buddha hands in Vitarka Mudra on a stone pedestal. Thailand. The sculptures are produced using the traditional 'lost-wax' technique, of which the authentic core mold (clay and mortar residues) remains clearly visible and intact on the inside. The hands are gracefully stylized with the characteristic elongated fingers forming the Vitarka Mudra: the sacred gesture of teaching, intellectual discussion, and the transmission of the Buddhist doctrine. In the center of the palm is a raised relief of a lotus flower, the symbol of spiritual purity. The wrists and fingers are richly adorned with finely detailed ornamental bracelets and rings, typical of classical Thai religious sculpture. The bronze has developed a brilliant, deep dark patina and still shows very rich, authentic traces of the original fire gilding (gold leaf). For optimal presentation these heavy fragments are mounted on sleek, minimalist black metal stands with a stone base. Condition: the hands remain in authentic condition with a beautiful historical appearance. The bronze and gilding show honest, characteristic age-related wear and weathering that confirm the age of the objects. No breaks, restorations, or structural defects to the bronze. The stands are of more recent date and are generally in reasonable/good condition with some small non-intrusive damage. The lot will be very well packaged and insured for shipment, including track & trace.
