Antique Castilian farming cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century

Descriptio Carved and assembled wood with wrought iron fittings. A traditional agricultural cart designed for transporting goods and tools in rural settings, with an open rectangular frame and large spoked wheels reinforced with metal rims. The composition reveals a fully functional construction, where the robustness of the frame, the front rails, and the hitching systems preserve its original utilitarian character. The remnants of bluish and reddish polychromy on the side panels stand out, as do the traces of wear, cracks, and oxidation that enrich the surface with an intense historical patina. The visible joinery, the eroded grain, and the irregularities of the wood reveal a handcrafted production linked to the Spanish peasant tradition of the 19th century. The piece conveys a powerful ethnographic and decorative presence, combining material authenticity, formal rusticity, and the memory of traditional agricultural culture—qualities that increase its appeal among collectors of folk art and antique rural furniture.
