Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Antique Chi-Chi Rug, Northeast Caucasus, late 19th century Size: 6 ft 1 in x 4 ft (1.85 m x 1.22 m) Provenance: Property of a retired New York dealer A finely articulated Chi-Chi rug from the northeast Caucasus, a group celebrated for its dense field ornament and distinctive borders. Compared with the broad, monumental drawing of Kazak rugs, Chi-Chi weavings typically employ smaller, repeating motifs that create an intricate, highly rhythmic surface. The contrast between the disciplined repeat and the individuality of the hand-drawn details rewards close examination. Its compact size and graphic clarity make this an attractive collector’s rug as well as a highly usable decorative object. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #417 is in good condition. The pile is full and even, with no visible signs of wear. Both ends are complete and hand-secured. The sides are complete and hand-secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. This rug is clean.
