Antique Engagement Ring With Sapphire & Diamonds in Gold & Platinum, c. 1905

All good things come in threes, or in the case of this ring, three times three! The dynamic composition presents three sparkling groups of three gemstones each. An intense blue sapphire in a gold bezel setting occupies the center of the ring. It is accompanied by two large old European cut diamonds totaling around 0.90 ct. Three smaller diamonds are set to the right and left of it. In total, this ring contains more than one carat of diamonds. The ring is a so-called "trilogy" ring. The three main stones are to be understood as a reference to a common past, present and future. A special focus is often placed on the stone in the middle of the design, as here with the sapphire, thus emphasizing the shared present - a reminder to enjoy the moments together. The dynamic composition without any historical ornamentation relies solely on the beauty of the high-quality materials used. In this respect, the ring, which was created shortly after 1900, is completely modern. At the same time, its detailed, precise craftsmanship is still very much in keeping with the great tradition of 19th century goldsmithing. And it is precisely this interplay that gives the ring its quality. The ring is in very good condition. The ring band has recently been renewed and reinforced.
