The second volume of the Educational Library for German Daughters, published in Augsburg in 1834, contains a chapter on the so-called language of flowers. In the Biedermeier period, this flower language was a common means of non-verbal communication and much of it has been preserved in proverbs and sayings. At that time, young lovers in particular could not clearly express what they were thinking and could not clearly express their affection and dislike verbally. The language of flowers therefore became an important means of communication without words. The meaning of this flower can now also be found in the volume under the keyword "daisy". The meadow plant stands for gentleness, joyful, playful youth, pure and quiet joy, as well as for modesty and love. The fine ring we discovered here in Berlin was designed with this in mind. A fine pearl, formed by an oyster without human intervention, is surrounded by a ring of ten diamonds with a total weight of around 1.10 ct. The diamonds frame the natural pearl like the leaves of a daisy. Their multifaceted sparkle is reflected in the soft luster of the genuine pearl. The stones are set a-jour in silver. A yellow gold ring band completes this beautiful piece of jewellery. The design language reveals that the ring was created in the c. 1900s. If you take a closer look at the ring, you can see that the diamonds set here are stones that are a good one or two generations older than the ring itself. Presumably, a young man sacrificed an antique family piece in order to have this ring made from it, a common procedure that we repeatedly encounter in antique pieces of jewellery. The beautifully appointed ring lives entirely from the natural beauty of its luxurious materials and combines a treasure from the sea with treasures from the depths of the earth in a harmonious design of the finest workmanship. Spoken in the language of flowers, it is a wonderful gift of love.
