Architectural ornament (Singa), Toba Batak village, Sumatra, Indonesia

Descriptio Carved wood. Dimensions: 32 × 22 × 60 cm. Traditional architectural sculpture known as a Singa, used by the Toba Batak people of Sumatra as a protective element on the facades of communal houses (rumah adat). It represents a mythological creature combining human and animal features, a symbol of strength and fertility, responsible for warding off evil spirits and attracting prosperity. An elegantly designed and well-proportioned piece, carved from hardwood with a natural patina that enhances its age. Provenance: private collection. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
