Armand Meffre (1929–2009) - Sète - La Pointe Courte

Armand Meffre (1929–2009) French actor and painter. - Sète - La Pointe Courte - signed at the bottom right, countersigned and titled and on the back, original work, oil on canvas 54x73 cm, stretched on a frame. Sète is not merely a subject for Armand Meffre: it is a place deeply linked to his life and his works. The port of Sète constitutes one of the subjects most dear to Armand Meffre. Fascinated by its port world, its quays, its boats and its installations, he reinterprets its shapes and colors, transforming the real landscape into powerful geometric compositions, at the boundary of abstraction. La Pointe Courte, historic and patrimonial district of Sète, is famous for its fishermens’ huts and its authentic atmosphere. Armand Meffre offers a cubist interpretation, where boats, masts and architectures blend into a modern geometric composition, luminous and particularly expressive. An emblematic actor of theater and cinema, Armand Meffre has acted under the direction of major filmmakers alongside Philippe Noiret, Jean Rochefort or Gérard Depardieu. Trained in painting with the master André Lhote, he developed a sensitive, luminous and deeply sensual body of work. His canvases, imbued with tenderness and poetry, reveal a deeply humane gaze, between restrained emotion and sincere simplicity. A complete artist, each painting tells a story and moves with its authenticity. A very talented artist with significant results in public sales.
