Numerous photographic illustrations and reproductions, in black and white and in color. Texts in German, English, and French. A remarkable comparative study devoted to the formal relationships between artistic creation and natural forms. The editors draw parallels between plant, mineral, and organic structures and works of art from different eras to reveal analogies in rhythm, structure, and composition. The illustrations draw particularly on modern art, featuring works by Paul Cézanne and numerous other artists. The cloth binding is pitted and stained, mainly on the covers; the interior is well preserved.
